no memory is ever alone

No Memory is Ever Alone is the story of my dad and me, but it is also about family. Every Christmas, he would bring out a box of slides he’d taken in his 20s, projecting them onto our living room wall and telling the same stories year after year. We moaned and groaned, but those rituals became a constant in a childhood marked by frequent moves and a lack of a steady “place” to call home.

By placing his slides into my present-day landscapes, I began creating a bridge between his life and mine—a trail of memories layered with meaning for both of us. These “dad memories” became part of my own history and sense of belonging.

The process was as important as the images. Rather than digitally merging them, I sought out locations that felt right, allowing his slides to meet my world naturally: a place within a place, a memory within a memory.
